Michael K. Smith, 61, passed away peacefully at home under hospice care after a brief illness on Friday August 7, 2026. He was born in Memphis, on September 22, 1964, to Carl S. and JoAnn Smith. He was raised in Vermillion, Ohio, graduating from Vermillion High School in 1982. Mike excelled in basketball and baseball. He loved golfing with family and friends. Mike is survived by his mother, JoAnn Smith of Brighton; his brother, Carl J. (Joyce) Smith of Vermillion, OH; one niece, Renee Case of Port Clinton, Ohio; one nephew, Ryan (Cassie) Smith of Amherst, Ohio; three great nieces, Rylie and Raegan Case of Port Clinton, OH and Teelyn Nida of Amherst, Ohio; one great nephew, Trey Nida of Amherst. OH, and several uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl S. Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday August 13 at the Covington Funeral Home with interment to follow in Morrison Memorial Cemetery in Brighton.
